March Suburban Professional Development Luncheon
The New Diversity Communications
March 22, 2006, 11 am - 1 pm
Maggiano's
175 Old Orchard Shopping Center
Skokie, IL 60077
Overview:
If you think diversity communications is strictly about culture, think again. Today, it encompasses age, gender and a host of other issues. This requires communicators to look at the changing demographics of the general population and create programs that speak to the “new” diversity in the work force. In this session, you’ll learn how to adapt your thinking to include the broad spectrum of diversity in your communications, and what it takes to tailor your communications around work force demographics.
Our Presenter:
Peg Wander, Supplier Diversity Leader, RR Donnelley
Peg's 20+ years of experience cover a broad range of communications disciplines from both a tactical and strategic perspective and in both corporate and not-for-profit settings. These disciplines include employee communication, member communication, media relations, special event planning and audio-visual production. Her past experience also includes writing for local newspapers and hosting a public affairs talk show on WNUA and WGCI in Chicago. In addition, Peg has considerable expertise in organizational development/behavior and she is a skilled facilitator, meeting designer and leadership coach.
Peg considers cultural diversity one of her passions. Evidence of this passion includes spending 12 years working for the Chicago Urban League, a race relations and social service agency. Currently, one of her primary areas of professional responsibility is the Supplier Diversity Program for RR Donnelley. Her masters degree thesis project involved the rebuilding of RR Donnelleys Diversity Councils. She has also worked on a volunteer basis in the gay/lesbian and homeless communities of Chicago.
An active member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Peg has served in a variety of roles including member of the Associations Executive Committee/Executive Board, Foundation Board and Conference Program Advisory Committee. A native Chicagoan, she helped welcome more than 1,500 attendees from 35 countries to the Associations Annual Conference (2002) as the Conference Hospitality Chair. For her efforts to move the Association and the communication profession forward, she received the first-ever Catalyst of the Year Award from IABC/Chicago in 2003.
Peg holds a B.S. Degree in Communications/Social Science from Northern Illinois University and a M.A. Degree in Whole Systems Design/Organization System Renewal (Focus: Change Management/Organizational Development) from Antioch University.
